LAF 1.6 Architecture ready for AI

AI agents are increasingly involved in software development — from generating code to preparing solution proposals. LAF 1.6 helps architects ensure that solutions created with AI remain aligned with the organization’s Reference Architecture and standards.

What’s new in LAF 1.6?

  • Machine-Readable Architecture Context (MRAC) — makes architectural context available to AI agents in a form they can use.
  • AI-Assisted Solution Vision — incorporates AI support into the preparation of a solution vision.
  • AI usage standards — help keep AI-assisted solutions consistent.
  • AI Footprint in the Component Portfolio Assessment — brings AI usage into component portfolio assessment.
  • A new anti-pattern: “Architecture blind to AI” — highlights the risk of overlooking AI’s impact on architecture.
  • Architects’ team responsibility — includes maintaining the quality and currency of the machine-readable representation of the architecture.

What does this mean in practice?

AI agents need up-to-date architectural knowledge and clearly defined standards. LAF 1.6 extends the framework with practices that help architects provide this context, assess solution proposals, and keep them aligned with the organization’s direction.

LAF is not a framework for managing AI. It focuses on the architectural and governance implications of AI participation in the software development lifecycle.
